Steps of Tankless Water Heater Maintenance
Turn off the power source: Firstly, turn off the power switch or shut off the main gas valve and then unplug your water heater.
Close off the water valve: Remove the lid from the heater and turn off the three water valves that are attached to the unit.
Remove the purge port valve caps: You will have to locate and close purge port valves. They contain a lever which resembles with the letter ‘T.’ After closing the valves, let the system release the pressure for a few minutes. Now close the valve caps that placed on the end of hot and cold-water valves.
Attach the Hosing Line: Your Tankless water heater maintenance kit may contain hosing lines that are used to clean the unit. You will have to attach hosing wires with each of the three valves. The hosing line should be long enough to reach a bucket from your appliance.
Open the purge port valves: The purge port valves have to be opened now by twisting it perpendicularly towards the hot and cold valves
Cleansing of the Tank: Now your heater is ready to be cleaned. You can use 2.5-gallon undiluted vinegar for the cleansing process. Avoid using chemical solutions as its residue may harm the unit and affect the purity of water.
Close the purge port valve: After the cleansing process, close the purge port valves by twisting it back to its parallel position. Once the purge valves closed, allow the system to standby for a few minutes. This will release the pressure.
Detach the hosing lines: Disconnect the hosing lines from the water valves carefully.
Replace the purge port valve caps: Now replace the valve caps into their place and tuck them firmly to its rubber seal. Ensure that caps are closed tightly to avoid any leakage.
Restart your water heater: Follow specific directions and instructions given in the manufacturer’s manual and safely step by step restart the system.
Rotate and open valves: About the manual, open the hot and cold valve parallel wise following the position of the main valve.
Turn on the hot water tap in your sink: Finally, turn on the hot water tap and let the air escape through the pipes. Leave the valve open for a few minutes till the water runs steadily into the faucet.
